3-Way Match
What Is a 3-Way Match?
A 3-way match is an invoice control that compares three documents before payment is approved: the purchase order, the goods receipt and the supplier invoice. If quantities, prices and terms agree across all three, the invoice can be paid. If they differ, the invoice is held as an exception for review.
In an enterprise environment, a 3-way match depends on purchase orders and goods receipts being recorded accurately in the ERP. It is a stronger check than a 2-way match, which compares only the purchase order and the invoice, and it is commonly used for goods where delivery needs to be confirmed before payment.
How a 3-Way Match Works
How SAFAL Supports 3-Way Matching
SAFAL's invoice matching capability supports both 2-way and 3-way matching, comparing supplier invoices with purchase orders, goods receipts and service entries, integrated natively with SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics and Navision. Matched invoices move on to approval without manual checking, while mismatches are flagged and routed for resolution. This is particularly useful for multi-entity enterprises with high invoice volumes, such as those in EPC, oil and gas, chemicals and manufacturing, where accounts payable teams process invoices against orders from many sites.
